Accommodation - A Selection of the Best Places to Stay in Castile and Leon
It probably doesn't need to be pointed out that right across the region, Castile and Leon has more than its fair share of fantastic accommodation to choose from. And its this sheer variety that meant for this selection of the best places to stay in Castile and Leon, however, we could only really cover five of the biggest tourist destinations. Wherever possible, we've tried to pull out some of the most emblematic buildings of historical importance - but whether they're grand paradors or small, family-run B&Bs, all of the small selection below are amongst the very best hotels in Castile and Leon...

The Best Hotels in Salamanca
As you'd expect from such a well-visited and striking historical city, Salamanca is home to some of the best places to stay in Castile and Leon. Where to start? At the higher end, down to the south of the Old Town, Hotel Rector consistently wows guests with its stunning premises and attention to detail; a little down the price scale, Salamanca Plaza del Mercado Hotel is a reliable option, while the stylish and affordable Room Mate Vega is an excellent middle of the range choice.

Towards the more budget end of the accommodation spectrum, slap-bang on the Plaza Mayor (and with some of truly stunning views), the Petit Palace Las Torres can offer some exceptionally good value rooms, while there's also a YHA hostel (Salamanca Youth Hostel) offering cheap dormitory-style accommodation.

The Best Hotels in Valladolid
While it may not have quite as many top-class places to stay as Salamanca, Valladolid can still offer plenty of great accommodation for all budgets. For the more luxury-inclined, four-star Hotel Vincci Frontaura is an excellent modern hotel that doesn't want for anything in terms of facilities. For something a little more atmospheric, however, Hotel Zenit Imperial combines a lovely 16th-century building, reasonable rates and a location that could hardly be more central. El Jardin de la Abadia and, despite being just outside the city, the AC Palacio de Santa Ana offer a similarly attractive package of plenty of atmosphere that doesn't cost the earth.

The Best Hotels in Burgos
The grandest hotel in Burgos is (arguably) the NH Palacio de la Merced. Housed in one of the city's more striking buildings, inside, the impressive Gothic architecture is lifted by plenty of chic modern touches. On the smaller, boutique hotel front, Hotel La Puebla offers style, intimacy (it's made up of just 15 rooms) a central location and a relatively affordable price tag. One of the hotels in Burgos that really manages to strike a balance between quality and price is the Hotel Cordon. Out in Lerma, meanwhile, the Parador de Lerma - housed in a Ducal palace built during the 17th century - is one of the most impressive historical places to stay in Castile and Leon.

The Best Hotels in Segovia
Segovia has some of the most inviting historical hotels in Castille and Leon.

Astorga Cate Ypergrino

It's not every day you get to stay in a converted monastery, but Hotel San Antonio el Real brings together original features - such as the wonder cloisters and handsome wooden beams throughout - to staggering effect. As the name suggests, Hotel la Casa Mudejar Hospederia is also set in a fine historical premises - original carved mudejar ceilings are the highlight, but they're far from the only thing of note. Hostal Fornos is one of the city's best cheaper options: impeccably clean, centrally located and boasting a light, airy premises of which many three-star hotels would be proud.

The Best Hotels in Avila
Hotel Palacio de los Velada is Avila's best high-end option. The price tag's not small, but it's worth it for sitting and having coffee in its gorgeous cloistered central patio alone. For a place with as much character as it does (exposed stone walls and wooden beams are the order of the day here) and a location within touching distance of the city walls, Hotel las Leyendas is extremely good value. A couple of budget options stand out, though: Hospederia la Sinagoga gives you loads of historical bang for your buck (including a striking columned patio), while in spite of its impressive-looking premises Eurostars Hotel Palacio de Valderrabanos is one of the more affordable places to stay in Avila.
