Medical spanish courses

In Castile and Leon you can learn Spanish in many schools which offer general Spanish courses, and courses focussed in specific topics. In this sense, there are particular classes for doctors, nurses and nursing assistants who need to improve their skills to get a fluent Spanish and to be able to maintain a proper Spanish conversation with their patients. You can take a two week course where you will study linguistic competence in real contexts and situations of the medical world. Some of the programs include visits to Health Centres and meetings with Spanish doctors and nurses.

The contents of a Spanish class for professionals in Medicine are rich and varied: grammar, Spanish phrases and technical vocabulary, Spanish names for the parts of the body, vocabulary on orthopaedics and rehabilitation, laboratory techniques, conversation with patients, medical reports…The student must have either intermediate Spanish level or advanced.

The lack of specific Spanish language books for this kind of courses require a great effort from the teachers, who design and create the manuals themselves. In the Internet they find a lot of web pages and resources of the medical area which help them to prepare the activities, using real teaching material. Such resources are medical magazines, dictionaries, glossaries, images, activities on-line, first aids…
