Pragmatics in Spanish Classes
Teaching pragmatics in the Spanish class for foreigners
Pragmatics is quite a new discipline in the linguistics field which explains many aspects of the communicative relationships. It studies the speakers’ behaviour when having a conversation among themselves. It is for this that it is very useful in the teaching of Spanish as a second language.
Nowadays, teachers tend to use a communicative approach when teaching Spanish to foreigners. This approach shows that to learn Spanish the best way possible it is neccesary not only to know grammar, but more important, to be able to communicate in Spanish.
So that, the Spanish language books and the different level courses (whether you are beginning Spanish, or are an intermediate Spanish student, or more advanced) must take into account many other features which were traditionally considered as extra linguistic. In fact, these new aspects belong to Pragmatics and they are said to be extra grammar factors.
These features are beyond the limits imposed by the Spanish phrases. To be able to assimilate this knowledge, the students are required to learn structures and strategies to improve their conversation skills.
A good use of Pragmatics in teaching will make our students’ speech more correct in all senses. In fact, Pragmatics is essential to explain the correlation of arguments at advanced levels. You can learn more about this topic in Learning Spanish with a communicative approach.
When learning a language it is very important that you reinforce what you have studied in your Spanish class.
